This has changed very little since I originally reviewed it and it remains absolutely fantastic with superb potential. My review stated that there was a bit of wood in evidence but that has largely disappeared to allow the green fruit, white flower and salt water aromas to shine. The ultra-pure, refined, elegant and cool flavors possess terrific vibrancy and focused power before culminating in a driving, understated, firm and altogether serious finish. I very much like this as it's classic Valmur and should age beautifully as the balance is perfect. I would note that while it can certainly be drunk now with pleasure it very clearly is still on the way up and I would strongly advise allowing it to continue aging. In sum, this is brilliant. - BH

The Valmur 2008 is a small step up in terms of elegance from the lovely Blanchots, and will be a superb bottle with seven or eight years of cellaring. The utterly refined nose wafts from the glass in a blend of apple, lemon oil, spring flowers, bee pollen, wonderful chalky soil tones and just a whisper of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and seamlessly elegant, with a superb core of fruit, brisk acids, laser-like focus and stunning length and grip on the nascently complex finish. 94+ - JG

Tasted after the corresponding Blanchots, Raveneau’s 2008 Chablis Valmur brings one back stunningly to an uncanny sense of lift and refinement as well as introducing piquant nut oil and sweetly savory as well as saline intimations of scallop. The texture here is creamy yet luscious, refreshing citrus accompany its sense of buoyancy. Wafting hedge flower, rosemary, and rowan perfume, citrus oils, iodine, kelp, and purple plum distillate are among the elusive elements in this subtly complex display that lingers with extraordinary length. “Refined length and delicacy along with density, that’s typical Valmur,” says Raveneau in apt summation.
